Slidell pedestrian identified, killed while standing in oncoming traffic

SLIDELL, LA — UPDATE - Troopers working in conjunction with the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office successfully located and made contact with the deceased pedestrian’s next of kin earlier today. The victim is identified as Donna Demaree, 57, of Slidell.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m. on July 24, State Troopers began investigating a fatal crash on U.S. 190/Gause Boulevard at its intersection with Cross Gates Blvd. in St. Tammany Parish.
The crash took the life of a female pedestrian whose identity is yet to be released pending family notification.
The crash happened as the female pedestrian was standing in the left westbound lane of U.S. 190 when she was struck by a car traveling westbound with a green signal at the intersection.
The pedestrian was transported to Ochsner Northshore Medical Center where she was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Impairment of the female pedestrian is unknown at this time pending toxicology results.
The driver, Slidell resident David DeSalvo, 31, was wearing a seat belt and received no injuries in the crash. He was not under the influence of any illegal substances.
Troopers are continuing their investigation into the events of the crash and working to identify next of kin for the deceased pedestrian.
