Following a two vehicle serious injury crash early Sunday morning, Justin Dansby, 28,  of Slidell was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries at LSU University Medical Center in New Orleans. The crash occurred at 4:25 a.m. on Sunday, July 15 in the westbound lanes of I-12 approximately one mile west of U.S. 11 in Slidell.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Dansby was traveling west in the left lane of I-12 in a 2005 Dodge pickup truck. A 2000 Peterbilt car carrier was traveling west in the right lane of I-12 ahead of Dansby. Both vehicles were traveling through the speed restricted construction zone near the U.S. 11 overpass. As Dansby exited the construction area, he accelerated passing several vehicles before moving into the right westbound lane behind the Peterbilt. For unknown reasons, Dansby failed to slow down as he approached the Peterbilt and struck the rear of the car carrier trailer causing his Dodge pickup to overturn several times.

The driver of the Peterbilt, Porfirio Galvez, 47, and front passenger, Oscar Martinez, 50, both of Orlando, FL, were properly restrained and not injured in the crash. Galvez submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system.

Dansby was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to University Medical Center in serious condition where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries. Alcohol and/or drug impairment is unknown at this time pending a toxicology analysis.
