LAFAYETTE, LA (NBC33) — The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help identifying the person pictured in the photo above. We’re told the individual might have information regarding the Keiosha Felix investigation.
Although the individual is not considered a suspect, investigators do believe he might have important information. They ask for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual. He is described as a black male, 5’7” to 5’9” tall, stocky build, wearing a white T-shirt and a rosary type cross hanging to the mid-chest area.
“We believe this person will have some information concerning Keiosha’s last known whereabouts,” Cpt. Kip Judice, Lafayette Sheriff’s Office, explained. “We want to speak to that person and hopefully come up with some critical information.”
Keiosha Marie Felix, 15, was last seen on April 30, 2012 in the Duson area. Although several arrests have been made in connection with the case, investigators are still coming up short when it comes to leads on where Felix might be located.
“We know people out there have information. We are encouraging people to come forward,” Cpt. Judice, noted. “We need tips to follow up on. I believe this case is solvable and it’s solvable with the public’s help.”
On Monday, Sept. 10, the Lafayette Sheriff’s Office took over as the primary agency responsible for the investigation with the hope of adding the resources needed to gain that information.
“We met with all the law enforcement agencies involved with the case and everyone concurred that at this point it was wise to bring on an agency [Lafayette Sheriff’s Office] with the resources that were needed for the investigation,” Cpt. Judice, explained. “We have the resources personnel wise that are needed.”
Until now, the Duson Police Department has been the primary investigating agency. Although they are still working on the case, the areas regarding public information and communication with family members has become the responsibility of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.
“We have a full time Public Information Officer, so the investigators do not have to stop what they are doing to talk to the media,” Cpt. Judice, noted.
Information from the public can be critical to any investigation, but more so when dealing with a missing person case. By increasing the amount of communication with media outlets, the Sheriff’s Office hopes to see an increase in tips as well.
“The goal is to find Keiosha and find her safe,” Cpt. Judice, explained. “I care as much about this case as I do about the Mickey Shunick case. I understand that the leads have not gotten the numbers as that of the Mickey Shunick case, but there are people out there who care about Keiosha and are out there looking every day. The same resources being used in the Mickey Shunick case are now being used in this case.”
Cpt. Judice noted that credible leads are coming in, and some of those point to the East Baton Rogue Parish area.
“I think the possibility that she’s in that area is reasonable,” he said.
Back in July the Zachary Police Department arrested Leon Wilkerson Jr. as the primary suspect in the case based on a warrant issued by the Duson Police Department. He was taken into custody at a trailer park located on Highway 19.
Not long after Wilkerson’s arrest, three more were taken into custody. First, Duson Police arrested Patricia Andrus and Portia Felix, who are both relatives of Felix. Then on August 6, a fourth arrest, Ronald Wilkerson, was made in West Baton Rouge Parish. Cpt. Judice could not comment in regards to the current standing of those arrests.
