Services set for popular SU professor Joseph Meyinsse

BATON ROUGE, LA — Funeral services have been set for popular Southern University professor Dr. Joseph A. Meyinsse who died Sunday of a heart attack.
Meyinsse, 60, was a longtime mathematics professor and chairman of the Science and Mathematics Doctoral Program.
Viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at Hall Davis & Sons Funeral Service at 9348 Scenic Hwy.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Nov 8 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1620 77th Ave. Burial will be in Southern Memorial Gardens, 3012 Blount Road.
“He was truly a great educator, friend of Southern University and friend of mine,” said SUBR Chancellor Dr. James L. Llorens. “He was one of the greatest promoters of the university and loved by his students and co-workers.”
Jeff Conyers, the SU tennis coach and a former student, described Meyinsse as “a great educator and person. He always greeted you with a wonderful smile. Dr. Meyinsse will be missed.”
Dr. Luria Young, interim Dean of the College of Education, said, “Dr. Meyinsse was the best mentor that a junior faculty member and ‘junior administrator’ could ever have.”
“He was just a great person to know,” Young said. “Dr. Meyinsse always had a friendly smile, he really cared about his students, and he was always willing to help.”
Meyinsse is survived by his wife, Patricia and a son, Jerome.
