NBC NATIONAL NEWS — On the eve of his party's national convention President Obama is making a trip to Louisiana to get a first hand look at the damage Isaac left behind and the clean-up and recovery that has started in some of the hardest hit communities.
Families are ripping away soaked sheet rock, pulling away downed tree limbs and trying to save anything that may be left after the storm.
While the new flood protection network around New Orleans seemed to save the city from Isaac, outside that system of levees, gates and canals many wonder if it actually made conditions worse.
The Army Corps of Engineers plans to investigate, but has confidence their work didn't create additional problems.
"We would not have built a system that would have induced flooding in other places," says Colonel Ed Fleming.
