BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A second Baton Rouge police officer in less than two weeks is recovering after being hit by a car.
Officials say both officers were on-duty at the time. The first officer was hit while writing up a burglary report and the second was hit while directing traffic.
The Baton Rouge Police Department says it's not something that happens very often, but now police are asking people to pay even more attention when they see the blue flashing lights.
"Our job is dangerous as it is, so we ask you to be a little more aware of what's going on, pay a little more attention when you're behind the wheel,” Cpl. Don Coppola, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “Put the phones down, turn the music down."
The officer who was hit last night only had minor injuries, and the driver who hit him stopped to help.
Police are still looking for the person who hit the first officer.
