Hitting the road this holiday season? There’s a new iPhone app to make your travels easier, and it was created right here in Baton Rouge.

It’s called Road Ninja, and it’s made to help users see what’s coming up down the road. That means, it’s giving you an idea of upcoming exits and what’s available at each of them. The app is also customizable, meaning that if a user wants to find a specific brand of gas or an ATM without a fee, they can just plug it into Road Ninja and the app will find it.

Road Ninja also allows users to connect socially. The app is plugged in to Facebook, Foursquare, and the corporate Twitter feeds for various businesses on the road.

Lamar Advertising is well-known for its roadside billboards across the country. The marketing team here in Baton Rouge created the app to connect their billboards with new technology. The goal? To provide the ultimate digital advertising experience.

“Everybody needs an app like this. Everybody needs to know what’s up ahead and is it a good place or a bad place?” says Lamar Advertising marketing director, Tommy Teepell.

Since its launch in October, the app has been downloaded 82,987 times for iPhones and iPads. Early next year, it should be available for Android too. Right now, it’s ranked 21st in free travel apps.
