Crowds lined the streets in New Roads today to celebrate Fat Tuesday in the streets of the parish seat of Point Coupee Parish.

Colorfully decorated floats inched down the streets, while fans of all ages gather to catch beads and stuffed animals.

It's a tradition going back to 1922, when the first Carnival club parade rolled in New Roads.

Nowadays, parade goers say it's a great time to get together as a family for some good clean fun.

"New Roads is a family oriented parade,” stated parade fan Yolanda Slaughter. “You don't have pushing and shoving in the crowds. It's just a family parade. "
