BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The first day of Hurricane season is just over a week away, and the Red Cross is taking advantage of technology to help you prepare for the storm.
A free iPhone app can help keep you safe in the event of a disaster or storm. The app has such features as maps to the location of shelters, their capacity and current population.
To download the app, users can visit the Apple store and search “American Red Cross shelters.” For those without an iPhone, the same shelter information can be found on the Red Cross website at www.redcross.org.
Along with the app, the Red Cross is now utilizing social networking sites to give people ways to let their loved ones know their safe in the event of an evacuation. Here in Louisiana we learned all too well how devastating it can be waiting on that information. This can be found on the Red Cross Safe and Well website.
