A portion of Jefferson Hwy. at Inniswold was closed for several hours this morning after a traffic crash that claimed the life of one woman.

The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident happened shortly before 8:00 a.m. We’re told Shannan Fergeson Taylor, 29, was at the stop sign on Inniswold and Jefferson Hwy when she entered the intersection and was struck by a van traveling southeast on Jefferson.

Investigators say Taylor was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was partially ejected from her vehicle when it rolled over on top of her.

Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only person in her vehicle.

The driver of the van was not seriously injured.

One week ago a 17 year old was killed from speeding on Jefferson, today another death. When are they going to do something about the speeding? I have lived just two blocks off Jefferson, by Town Center for over 20 years and the speeding and accidents get worse each year. I know it is a major artery and people need to get where they need to go, but something must be done to curb the speeding. I would be willing to sacrifice a little of my time for slower speed limits in order to save a life.
