Port Allen has a new mayor
PORT ALLEN, La (NBC33) - — By a vote of three to one, the Port Allen city council elected R.J. Loupe as the city's next mayor. It's a job the former mayor pro tem wasn't expecting, "I was shocked, but I was pleased, so we can move on and just get things done we need to get done."
Loupe has served on the council since 1970 and he says he knows exactly what he needs to get done as the top man in Port Allen, "gather all employees and meet with 'em and then go through the every day routine of what's going on, address all those issues and move on and get 'em corrected."
Loupe takes over for Derek Lewis who resigned Tuesday. That was after pleading guilty in "Operation Blighted Officials" and stepping down.
People who call Port Allen home, like Lillian Ragan, think Loupe is the person Port Allen needs to repair the city's image, "I think he'll be fair and I think he'll try to do anything to progress the city."
She knows to get the job done, the city will have to get behind its new leader, "we have to cooperate with him and help him in any way that we can."
