Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Law enforcement from several agencies were honored earlier today in Baton Rouge.
State troopers, sheriff's deputies, and even agents with Wildlife and Fisheries all were thanked for getting drunk drivers off the streets.
They were honored today by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
The officers today all have locked up people for drinking and driving, and state police say they are the reason death and injury rates from DWIs here are on the way down.
Lieutenant Doug Cain stated, “Heavy enforcement - good patrols, proactive patrols - they're saving lives. At the end of the day that's what these gentlemen, these men and women are doing - saving lives. We're proud to be a part of it.
The highway safety commission says special recognition goes to prosecutors. They say once arresting drunk drivers, it's critical to have them prosecuted.
