Police Chief addresses citizens' concerns

Less than a week after being named police chief, Dewayne White spent time addressing the concerns of citizens who call Baton Rouge home, Citizens like John Daniel, “we have to build relationships based upon success, based upon helping people move forward to be productive, rather than just arresting our way to safety.”

White says he plans on making the Capital City a safer place by getting officers to build bonds with people all across the city, :it’s necessary for us foster relationships between the police department and the citizens so that we can gain the public trust.”

White feels the best way to build these relationships is to get out on the streets and meet the people where they live and citizens are confident White is the right man at the right time for Baton Rouge.

Time will only tell if White is the right man for the job, but he knows it’s going to be a tough job getting Baton Rouge back on track, “it's only through community policing and gaining trust that we can make a significant impact on the crime rate in Baton Rouge.”
