NEW ROADS, LA (NBC33) — "My heart goes out to her family. It really does," says New Roads resident Latonya Joseph.
Latonya Joseph lives in New Roads and graduated from Point Coupee Central High School just a few years ago. She says the whole community is feeling the pain from student Tesa Middlebrook taking her life. She just wishes the high school senior would have said something to somebody before she did.
"I would just want somebody to say something if they were having problems. You never know who can help. You gotta look into different signs," says Joseph.
She believes that while the school could have done more about the bullying she allegedly went through.
"Get a better sense of their students, get to know them better," says Joseph.
She believes there may have been other factors involved in her untimely passing.
"By losing her mom, we don't know how it feels to lose a mom," says Joseph.
Today, the school paid tribute to Tesa. A trubute that ended with a balloon release. It's an event residents believe will give the community some sense of closure.
"I think it's going to help a lot of people because from what I've seen a lot of people went out to support her family," says Joseph.
