A formal complaint alleging widespread corruption among some of Lafayette’s top law enforcement and government officials was a priority topic of conversation at today’s Civil Service Board meeting.

The petition was heard on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at the Lafayette Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board meeting. A group of officers (former and current) with the Lafayette Police Department filed the suit against Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft, Major Randy Vincent, Lt. Dwayne Prejean, and Sgt. Mark Francis. The petitioners claim that these individuals are supporting a culture of widespread corruption that has lead to physical threats, racial discrimination, preferential treatment, and the attempted cover-up of officer misconduct.

Among the allegations presented today was an audio file, which was made public on the site Busted in Acadiana. The audio recording discusses an internal investigation regarding Lafayette Police Officer Jeremy Dupis.

Chief Jim Craft said today that the lawsuit is baseless and the employees who filed it are attempting to undermine the confidence the people of Lafayette have in the department.
