GONZALES, LA — Officials with PCS Nitrogen donated Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units to Fire District #1on May 1.
Travis Schexnaydre, safety superintendent with PCS Nitrogen in Geismar, said his company donated 22 air packs and 63 bottles for the air packs. Schexnaydre said the capacity of the air bottles vary from 30, to 45 and 60 minutes.
“We’re glad to do this for the community,” Schexnaydre said.
Galvez Lake Fire Department Fire Chief Wayne Hill, who is board vice chairman of Fire District #1, said the donated equipment will save Ascension Parish from spending tax dollars. He said three fire trucks in Fire District #1will be outfitted with the SCBA’s.
James LeBlanc, chairman of Fire District #1 said ORR Safety, a local company that provides safety products and services, certified all of the SCBA’s before the donation was made. He said the value of the donation would be between $125,000 to $130,000.
“This is a big help for our fire rating in the parish,” LeBlanc said. “The partnership we have with industry and local fire departments is very strong in this parish.”
