In Terrebonne Parish, quite a bit of drugs and drug money are off the streets. Deputies made the discovery in Houma as they served a search warrant.  When they searched the home of Gerard Desoto, 56, of Houma, deputies say they found twenty marijuana plants, eighty pounds of weed, and nine thousand dollars in cash. Authorities estimate the street value at almost $500,000. Desoto is facing several charges, including possession with intent to distribute.

In Tangipahoa Parish, a woman is behind bars facing a charge of second degree murder.  Deputies say Brooklyn Huber-Brown was charged after new evidence came to light in the 2009 shooting death of her husband.  Christopher Brown was shot and killed in his sleep.  Another woman has already been convicted and is serving a life sentence.

In Assumption parish, residents are still under mandatory evacuation.  But, officials with the Department of Natural Resources say, now that the permit submitted by the Texas Brine Company has been approved, pieces for a relief well should start moving in later this week. It’s all part of an effort to see what’s causing that huge sinkhole that formed recently in the Bayou Corne area, forcing area residents from their homes Authorities have said the evacuation order will stay in place until the cause of the sinkhole is determined.  It’s estimated that could take at least a month.
