BATON ROUGE, La.(NBC33) — Tangipahoa - A 17 year old is in jail after allegedly raping a 54 year old Roseland woman. Carl Smith is accused of forcing himself upon his victim at her home. We're told the victim knew Smith. Deputies say he fled the scene after the 911 call was placed but he was eventually tracked down and taken into custody. 17 year old Carl Smith is charged with aggravated rape.
Claiborne - Help is on the way for people affected by Tuesday’s severe storms in Homer and Lake Claiborne. The American Red Cross has sent four disaster response teams into Claiborne parish to work with families affected. Three of the teams will be doing damage assessment and talking with families around Homer and Lake Claiborne. Crews will be distributing water and clean up kits to families who need them.
Livingston - Denham Springs city leaders and members of the business community broke ground on a new strip mall near the Bass Pro Shop. The new 10 thousand square foot retail space has room for 5 businesses. Shoppers can expect to see one of those spaces become a Rotolos Pizzeria. The project is expected to cost around 3 million dollars to complete. Denham Springs mayor Jimmy Durbin says business in the area around the Bass Pro Dhop and the new Sams Club is booming.
