BATON ROUGE, LA.(NBC33) — Calcasieu - Five passengers and two flight attendants were injured after their flight hit severe turbulence early this morning. Officials say the United Airlines flight departed from Tampa, Florida in route to Houston, Texas when it hit turbulence over Lake Charles, Louisiana. The plane landed safely in Houston. Authorities say at least three people were transported to local hospitals and their conditions are unknown.
Orleans - Five former New Orleans police officers sentenced today to prison for their part in deadly shooting on the Danziger Bridge after Hurricane Katrina. The sentences range from six to 65 years. A federal jury convicted the six officers in August 2011 of civil rights violations. Police shot six people, killing two, less than a week after Katrina made landfall in 2005.
