LOUISIANA (NBC33) — Some 13,000 senior citizens in Louisiana may need to add Medicare Part D to their Medicare coverage now that Blue Cross/Blue Shield is doing away with its Senior Drug Plan.
Open enrollment for Medicare began today and runs through December 7.
It can be a confusing time for many senior citizens, but even more so this year with the government shutdown and Obamacare being rolled out at the same time.
Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon wants to remind seniors that Medicare is not part of the federal insurance marketplace, and he wants you to know the state has resources to help you make any adjustments you need to make to your coverage.
Seniors can call the Senior Health Insurance Information Program with any questions at 1-800-259-5300.
