Sheriff Louis Ackal would like to advise the residents of Iberia Parish of a possible sweepstakes scam reported to the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were advised by the complainants that they were contacted by someone stating they had just won a large amount of money.

According to the victims, the caller then said that someone from the sweepstakes would arrive at their residence with a check for the amount that was disclosed to them. The victims would then have to cash the check for the representative of the sweepstakes in order to receive the money they had supposedly won.

It appears the callers are possibly from outside of United States.

If any resident from Iberia Parish receives a phone call of this nature to please contact the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office at (337) 369-3711.
