Officials calling for all phone use to banned while driving

Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) —
Talking on the phone while driving your car may seem like an everyday activity. but that soon could change.
The National Transportation Safety Board wants every American to stop using their cell phone while driving.
Those officials are calling on a ban of all portable handheld devices in the driver's seat, citing a new study that shows drivers are 163 times more like to get in a wreck when texting or emailing.
Texting while driving is already illegal here in Louisiana.
If the new plan becomes law, drivers will not be able to make a phone call while driving, even if you have a hands-free device.
Almost 3,100 people died due to distracted driving last year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
