BATON ROUGE, LA. (NBC33) —
Ochsner Baton Rouge will host its annual Tree of Life ceremony in honor of the holiday season on Thursday, December 8th at 1:00 pm at Ochsner Medical Center – Baton Rouge. Members of the community can participate by purchasing a brass ornament in honor or memory of a loved one. During the tree lighting ceremony, each ornament will be individually announced and hung on the holiday tree.
“Many of us remember special family members or friends during the holiday season. The Ochsner Tree of Life offers a unique opportunity to honor or memorialize these individuals,” says Amy Echols, Ochsner Baton Rouge Philanthropy Director. Ornaments can be purchased for $20 each at Ochsner Medical Center- Baton Rouge or by clicking here. As a memento of the event, ornaments can be picked up in January.
This year’s Tree of Life will benefit the Ochsner Reach Out and Read program. Reach Out and Read is a national program promoting literacy in children. Through Reach Out and Read Ochsner pediatricians are able to give every pediatric patient, ages 6 months to 5 years, a new developmentally-appropriate book at their well visits. The goal is to foster an early love of reading in the children and to help develop early literacy skills so children enter school prepared for success.
