Night with Dr. Maya Angelou at LSU sold out, alternative viewing options made available

BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — One of the great voices of contemporary literature will speak at LSU tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 19. Although tickets are sold out, there are viewing options available to non-ticket holders.
LSU Campus Life is offering three viewing alternatives to watch Dr. Maya Angelou. The influential poet and African-American activist will begin speaking at 7:30 p.m. in the LSU Union Theatre.
The first option is standby seating. A line will form in the north lobby of the LSU Student Union beginning no sooner than 4:30 p.m. At 7:10 p.m., all unclaimed seats will be filled from this line.
The second option is overflow seating. Large viewing screens will be posted at three different locations (Live Oak Lounge, Magnolia Room, and North Lobby) in the Union for those in the standby line who do not gain a seat in the theatre.
Finally, the entire talk will air live on Tiger TV (Cox channel 75). This is only available to on-campus televisions.
For those who have tickets, you are advised to arrive early for seating. Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and tickets are general admission. So, if you want a good seat, make sure to get there early. They will not allow any seats to be saved, so make sure your entire party arrives at the same time.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Angelou is a writer, poet, and African-American activist. She has written five autobiographical novels and many volumes of poetry, including “Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water ‘Fore I Die,” which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. In 1993, she wrote “On the Pulse of Morning” for the inauguration of President Bill Clinton. She went on to win a Grammy Award for the audio version of that poem. In addition, Angelou made her directorial debut in 1998 with “Down in the Delta” starring Alfre Woodard, and published a cookbook, “Great Food, All Day Long,” in 2010.
