Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — DOTD says the next construction project on I-10 will have to wait.
It had been studying an expansion of the section of the freeway that runs from the Mississippi River bridge to the I-12 split.
The price tag for that project was approaching $200 million dollars, and DOTD doesn't think the state can afford that right now.
Instead, it's going to study potential improvements to surface streets in that area.
DOTD mentioned the expansion of Essen Lane as the type of project that it wants to replicate.
"With the current financial climate, it just made more sense to reorganize, refocus, and make sure our resources are going strategically towards projects that were more feasible and fundable,” stated Jodi Conachen with DOTD.
DOTD says it will look to expand the freeway in the future, when the economy improves. It will also consider a renovation of the Mississippi River bridge.
