WEST FELICIANA PARISH, LA (NBC33) — The West Feliciana Parish Hospital is over 40 years old, and after years of saving and planning, a new hospital looks to be in the works. However, that reality comes at a price.
A St. Francisville ballpark and children's playground will be knocked down in order for the new facilities to be built.
The park is a staple of the community and has many visitors, including Jamie Farmer's family. Farmer brings her children to the park at least once a week.
"There are not many parks or playgrounds in St. Francisville," stated Farmer. "This is the only one that I know of, so it's pretty important for us because we come here a lot."
Soon, the families that frequent the park will need to find a new place to play.
"If we don't have playground to go to, we will find something else to do," noted Farmer.
Even though two ballparks and a huge playground will be removed, residents of West Feliciana Parish agree that a new hosipital is a much-needed addition to the area.
"We really need a better hospital than what we've got," said West Feliciana resident Albert Davis.
Farmer agreed, “I think there is a need for the hospital and I’m really glad they are doing it.”
Within the next 90 days, the hospital will go into a final offer with the police jury to purchase the land. They will the start construction within the next year after the design is finalized.
"We will be able to use that property for something a little more efficient than what we are using it for now," noted West Feliciana Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Lee Chastant.
There’s no date set for construction to start. The Farmers will continue to use the park until the equipment is moved and the construction process begins.
