BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — BREC is welcoming a new addition to its parks system. It was made possible by one of the largest cash donations ever made to the organization.
The newly named Turner Visitor Center is now under construction at Magnolia Mound Plantation. When built, it will welcome the 14,000 visitors who come to the plantation each year.
BREC Superintendent Carolyn Mcknight says the center will serve a vital role in bringing Baton Rouge history to life.
"It will serve as a tourist attraction so that when people see Magnolia Mound they will think of BREC, they'll think about how Baton Rouge has developed over the years and hopefully as a way to ensure we keep promoting the history of this community," she said.
The center will have a gift shop, an educational theater and meeting rooms.
