If you’re expecting and a little overweight, a new study is Baton Rouge is looking for you.

It's called the “Expecting Success” study. Researchers want to help women gain healthy amounts of weight.

They will see if using a smart phone will help with monitoring during the pregnancy.

The study asks for three clinic visits during the pregnancy and three after. The visits will monitor a variety of things from weight, blood pressure and lifestyle.

Doctors say this study is something that will benefit not only the mother, but the child.

"The most alarming statistic is when a baby that’s exposed to an overweight environment, the baby is more prone to develop childhood obesity, and go on to be an obese adult," stated Dr. Leanne Redman.

The study is being held at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Woman's Hospital.
