Denham Springs, La (NBC33) — Denham Springs city leaders and members of the business community broke ground on a new strip mall near the Bass Pro Shop.

The new 10,000 square foot retail space has room for five businesses. Shoppers can expect to see one of those spaces become a Rotolo’s Pizzeria.

Denham Springs Mayor Jimmy Durbin says business in the area, especially around the Bass Pro Shop and the new Sam’s Club is booming.

"It's something (business) we've been picking up because of the traffic volume here in the south side of Denham Springs,” stated Durbin. “That's automatic advertising. You don't have to advertise. People drive by your business, and they're going to notice it right there. This is a promising location."

Developers expect construction to be completed by mid-October, and businesses to be open by Christmas. The project is expected to cost around $3 million to complete.
