LOUISANA (NBC33) — The Department of Transportation and Development has announced new safety precautions for the dangerous stretch of I-12.
Drivers can now expect rumble strips, reflective arrows, and more monitor boards that are expected to encourage drivers to slow down and drive safely, especially in the eastbound lanes, where a sharp lane shift has caused several accidents recently.
"The lane shift is necessary so crews can finish the eastbound Amite River bridge,” stated Geaux Wider spokesman Bill Grass. “The shifts will be removed when the bridge is complete in mid-April."
Until the lane shifts can be removed, officials continue to ask for motorists to be patient and bear with them.
