In New Roads, ground is broken on a road that will bring new business to the city.

The proposed highway will be called Memorial Boulevard. It'll connect Hospital Road with a major parkway.

On top of new businesses, about 300 jobs are expected.

The mayor, along with people in New Roads, say it's the economic boost the city needs.

"There is excitement for the jobs and having more access to goods and services that we're not use to getting in a town of this size," said Mayor Robert Myer.

Several businesses have already committed to move into the area including a Wal-Mart.
