NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — New Orleans police say their murder rate is up 12 percent in 2011, which is ten times higher than the national average.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu says it's due to community, education, and economic problem. He adds that he has plans to bring down the number of murders in 2012.
In Baton Rouge, police say they'll release an unofficial count of murders in 2011 sometime next month.
