New Orleans-based musicians help ‘Pay It Forward’ for Hurricane Sandy recovery

NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — An all-star line-up of musicians gathered in New Orleans on Tuesday, Nov. 20 to perform as a way of helping to “Pay It Forward” to those recovering from Hurricane Sandy.
“New Orleans has been there, we remember the generosity of others, and we want to pay it forward to those who are recovering,” Mayor Mitch Landrieu said.
The concert was held at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre for the Performing Arts and will include performances by Irvin Mayfield, Kermit Ruffins, Ivan Neville, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Amanda Shaw, Stephanie Jordan, James Andrews, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Mia Borders, Khris Royal, Sasha Masakowski, the Stooges Brass Band, the Wild Magnolias with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, and more.

“We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for people affected by this storm,” Mayor Landrieu added.

Money raised with the concert will go to the NOLA Pay it Forward Fund at the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF). It will be used to support non-profit organizations assisting in Hurricane relief and recovery efforts.
