The Baton Rouge fire department has a new tool to replace one of its oldest. It's a new fire house on Florida Blvd.

Today was the ribbon cutting ceremony for the station. It's just under 10,000 square feet, and is a significant upgrade to the station it's replacing.

"It’s replacing our oldest operating station,” Chief Ed Smith, Baton Rouge Fire Department, explained. “Station one that was located on North 19th was erected in 1926, so it's 85 years old."

EMS will also be housed at the same location. It replaces Station six, which is their oldest location as well. Both say the new facility should help with call volume and response times.
