Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez proclaimed the week of April 21 – 27, 2013 as “National Volunteer Week” in Ascension Parish.

President Martinez read the proclamation aloud during the parish council meeting on March 19. With this proclamation, volunteers are encouraged to contact their local community service organization like Volunteer Ascension and offer their names and talent to make a real difference in the lives of others.

“I want to thank Volunteer Ascension for the job that they do here in our parish,” President Martinez said. “Every time we, as a parish, have called upon them, they have been there. Every hurricane we’ve had, you all have been there to come and help us.”

Volunteer Ascension representative Cathy Waggenspack-Landry announced the yearly “Volunteer of the Year” recognition luncheon will be held on April 25, 2013 from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. at the Clarion Inn on Hwy. 30 in Gonzales.

Waggenspack-Landry said for more information about the luncheon or Volunteer Ascension visit www.volunteerascension.org or call (225) 644-7655.
