We've already had our first named storm and we're still ten days away from the start of Hurricane Season.

The Mayor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness held its 2012 Hurricane Preparedness Meeting today.

The department heads of all the agencies that play a role in disaster response were on hand.

The purpose - to let everyone know they're standing at ready when and if a hurricane strikes.

One piece of advice that was given today was check on those who live in your neighborhood.

"New people have moved into neighborhoods, so touch base with them before Hurricane Season, before an incident, and make sure they're okay, especially the elderly,” stated Tueday Mills with MOHSEP.

Other advice given was to make sure your children know the family's game plan for safety during an emergency.

There will be a Red Stick Ready event for kids at the Mall of Louisiana on June 16.
