ORIGINAL: A 15-year-old girl never returned home from school yesterday and officials ask for help from the public to track her down.

The St. James Parish Office issued a Nixle alert last night related to the disappearance of Melanie Welch. The teen was last seen getting off the school bus at her residence in Gramercy and was officially reported missing by her family at roughly 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

“There is nothing so far that leads us to believe there’s any foul play,” Major Sid Berthelot, St. James Sheriff’s Office, said. “Once people started realizing she was missing, we started getting several tips that she was seen walking in the area.”

Officials believe she may be in the LaPlace area.

Welch is described as a white female, 5’1”, with brown hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing her school uniform of a white shirt, khaki pants, and possibly a blue jacket.
