Mid City hosts night of tax free art

Mid City Baton Rouge is known for putting on some of the best art shows in the city. Now, they're doing just that, and even more.

Elizabethan Gallery is just one of the eleven art dealers hosting works by local artists tonight, Thursday, July 14. It's a smaller scale version of the bi-annual art festivals (held in November & May) they host every year.

Starting at 6 p.m., the eleven galleries open their doors to show case all original art work ranging the full spectrum of mediums. Not only will they have great deals, but if you see something you like - then buying it in this part of town, will save you even more than you might know.

"This is a tax free, cultural district on original art only,” Liz Walker, Owner of Elizabethan Gallery, explained. “What that does is gives you the tax, which is 9 percent right of the bat."

The Mid City Art District tax exemption on original art started back in March of 2010. Those galleries where you can use that tax exemption tonight are:
