A man and a young boy were killed early this morning after their vehicle was hit by an 18-wheeler. They were pulled on the side of I-20 because the boy became sick. The driver of the 18-wheeler was also killed during the crash.

The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash happened shortly before 1:00 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 12. We’re told the van was driving down I-20 about 20 miles west of Arcadia when the child, Miguel Moreno, 10, of Lullington, North Carolina, became ill.

Miguel Salas, 48, was standing on the side of the road with Moreno when they were hit by an 18-wheeler. The side of the van they were driving in was also hit. The 18-wheeler then continued to travel off the road until it eventually hit a tree.

Salas and Moreno were both pronounced dead. The driver of the 18-wheeler was also pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have not released his name due to pending notification of family members.

There were 3 additional people inside the van when the crash happened. They include a 73-year-old woman, a 45-year-old woman, and a 13-year-old boy. They were all transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
