ST. AMANT, LA (NBC33) — Officials believe the bones discovered by hunters in St. Amant on Sunday belong to a man who was reported missing in 2008.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office believes that the bones discovered are the remains of Robert Alexis, 47, of St. Amant. Alexis’ drivers license was found in a wallet located under the skeletal remains.
Investigators say Alexis was last seen on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008. He was reported missing the next day by family members.
At the time of the investigation, an eye witness reported seeing Alexis walking away from a vehicle headed toward Highway 429. Investigators searched that area at the time, but were unable to locate Alexis.
On Sunday, Oct. 28, hunters were in a wooded area located along Hwy 429 and LA 22. They first discovered a human skull and reported it to authorities.
The bones were transported to the LSU FACES lab for identification.
Investigators have not yet determined a cause of death.
