BATON ROUGE, LA. (NBC33) — Officers responded to reports of a major accident Thursday, Nov. 10 around 9:12 p.m. on I-12 around O'Neal.

The driver of a tractor - trailer stopped in the roadway due to traffic congestion when a GMC Sierra stopped directly behind him. The driver of the Sierra saw that the driver of a Honda Odyssey was approaching his vehicle at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Sierra attempted to move onto the left shoulder of the roadway to avoid a collision. There was a minor crash between the Sierra and the Odyssey.

Deborah Kennedy, the driver of a Honda Civic, was able to stop safely behind the Odyssey. The driver of a Nissan Titian then crashed into Kennedy's vehicle, causing her to crash into the Odyssey which then crashed into the tractor - trailer.

Kennedy was pronounced dead on the scene. Another person was taken to the hospital for minor problems.

East I-12 Before O'Neal Ln will be shut down until further notice. All traffic is exiting at Millerville

This crash is still under investigation with charges pending.
