LSU's 'Union Theater Presents' announces individual performances

BATON ROUGE, LA — The LSU Student Union Theater’s programming for 2013-14 will include individual performances of Larry King at LSU with former Gov. Edwin Edwards and Leo Honeycutt, magician Adam Trent, Comedy Central on Campus and two school day performances of Kid Power: Operation Lunch Line. The six shows in the LSU Union Theater’s 2013-14 season are “Memphis,” Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” “Sweet Charity,” “Yesterday – Beatles Tribute” and “Hello, Dolly!”
Two-time Peabody Award winner for Excellence in Broadcasting for both his radio (1982) and television (1992) shows and 10-time Cable Ace award winner for Best Interviewer and for Best Talk Show Series, Larry King will interview former Edwards and author Honeycutt in this once-in-a-lifetime event on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 4:30 p.m. Following King’s standard one-hour television interview format, this evening promises to be unforgettable dialogue between legendary men. Individual tickets will go on sale Monday, Aug. 12.
Trent has been described as “Justin Timberlake meets David Copperfield.” He is taking the magic world by storm, blending dancing and singing to original pop music with innovative stage illusions, charming wit and emotion to create an experience that is part magic show, part concert and part stand-up comedy. Witness how magic has changed on Thursday, Sept. 19, at 5:30 p.m.
Comedy Central on Campus brings three of the hottest comedians to the LSU Union Theater: TJ Miller from “She’s Out of My League” and “Get Him To The Greek,” Kevin Barnett from MTV2’s “Guy Code” and “How To Follow Strangers” and Thomas Middleditch from the HBO series “Silicon Valley,” “The Office” and “The Other Guys.” These three have been featured across Comedy Central’s multiple platforms. Don’t miss these hilarious headliners on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m.
The LSU Union Theater’s 2013-14 Season Series includes the winner of four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical, “Memphis.” Performances are Monday, Nov. 25, and Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7:30 p.m.
NETworks presents Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast,” the smash hit Broadway musical, is coming to Baton Rouge. Experience the romance of “Beauty and the Beast” on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.
“Sweet Charity” includes hits such as “Hey, Big Spender,” “I’m A Brass Band” and “If My Friends Could See Me Now.” Winner of five Tony Awards, “Sweet Charity” performs Friday, March 7, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.
Live from Las Vegas! “Yesterday – The Beatles Tribute,” with authentic costume and instruments, recreates note for note the music of the Fab Four and can be seen Friday, March 21, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.
Winner of 10 Tony Awards including best musical, “Hello, Dolly!” is one of the most enduring Broadway classics. Emmy-award winning Sally Struthers stars as the strong-willed matchmaker Dolly. The performance is scheduled for Sunday, March 30, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.
“Racine D’or,” or “The Golden Root,” is an original modern dance created by New York City-based Movement Workshop Group. This piece is inspired by Cajun folklore and includes live music by four-time Grammy nominee Cedric Watson et Bijou Creole. “Racine D’or” will also incorporate up to 10 local dancers in the performance on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. This performance is funded in part by a grant from South Arts, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Louisiana Division of the Arts.
