Louisiana (NBC33) — Louisiana is tied for the biggest increase in food stamp use, according to numbers released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
However, the increase was between May and June, so it didn't take into account everyone who applied for food aid after Hurricane Isaac hit Louisiana.
In Louisiana, more than 900,000 people received food aid between May and June. That's up almost one and a half percent from the previous month, and is also 3,000 more than last year at this time.
Additionally, thousands of Louisianans have also applied to the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program since Isaac struck.
People have until Tuesday, September 11 to apply for D-SNAP.
