Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — People across the country are turning to Craigslist to get a second chance of finding their potential soul mate. The catch is they may never have actually spoken.
It's called a “missed connection”.
According to a new study, Wal-Mart is the number one place people have “missed connections.”
Baton Rouge shoppers say they're not surprised.
"It could be really creepy, or it could be really cool. You just never know," stated shopper Justin Grier. "I think it (Wal-Mart) is the universal place that people have to go at least once a week. Everyone gets sucked into Wal-Mart, whether they like it or not."
Some customers said the ads are a compliment, but are still a little creepy.
"I think it might be a little bit weird if I didn't know the person," stated Terry Heard. "At my age, that's wonderful because I don't act on it, and I wouldn't allow them to act on it. But it's still flattering."
Shopper Slyvia Elder says the missed connections could be fate.
"You can actually miss that ‘missed connection’ and it might have been really good,” said Elder. “Maybe they weren't meant to be connected."
She went on to say that the key to avoiding a missed connection is having a little confidence.
“If I'm in there smiling, then I always meet people, you know, who are laughing and smiling."
The study looked at Craigslist’s Missed Connections section for 15 states, but did not include Louisiana in its study.
