Our local Red Cross chapter always tries to do what it can during large-scale natural disasters, such as the Arizona wildfires.

None of our local Baton Rouge Red Cross volunteers are in Arizona, but they say they're still helping out from home.

Once the fire is contained, volunteers will be allowed into the disaster area to help.

“We’ve got colleagues from elsewhere in the country who’ve gone to help with sheltering, feeding and mental health aspects to make sure that we are providing the support for the community members who need that right now,” stated Nancy Malone with the Red Cross.

The Red Cross encourages everyone to download its wildfire app, in case a fire like the one in Arizona breaks out here in Louisiana.
