Local police are making sure your children are safe and secure on the road. The Gonzales Police Department was out at Cabela's Thursday, inspecting car seats to make sure they're safe for your little ones.

Police say more than 90% are not installed correctly. They helped put the seats in the right way, and gave parents safety tips, so they could do it themselves.

The seat should be buckled or latched tightly. It should not move more than one inch from side to side or front to back. Harness straps should be tight, with the chest buckle at armpit level. If you can pinch the shoulder straps, they are too loose.

If you missed the car seat inspection, not to worry! NBC33 and FOX44 are hosting a Safe at Home Event this Saturday at Cabela's. That's from 10 to 4, and there will be someone from Lexlee Overton's office doing car seat inspections.

I want them to check all the parts in my Isuzu. Not only the car seats but also all the Isuzu Parts installed on it to ensure my safety.
