Local hospital exec gets national recognition

BATON ROUGE, La (WOMAN'S HOSPITAL) — Teri Fontenot, Woman’s Hospital President & CEO, has been named one of the “100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare magazine. A first-timer to the list, Fontenot is the only Louisiana leader to be named to this year’s prestigious ranking, sharing this elite status with President Obama and other prominent figures. This is Modern Healthcare magazine’s 9th annual ranking, and more than 414,000 nominations were submitted nationwide for this year’s recognition. “I am honored by this recognition from my colleagues. To be included in this year’s list is a pleasant surprise," said Fontenot who ranked No. 79. Modern Healthcare readers nominate and vote for the most influential leaders in healthcare. Other honorees include President Obama, Congressional leaders, members of President Obama’s Administration, and CEO’s of well-known healthcare organizations.
In Modern Healthcare’s August 22 issue, Fontenot commented on the growth of healthcare performance reporting saying, “I'm a firm believer in transparency and disclosure, and that can have more impact on performance improvement than any payments or penalties.”
As chair-elect of the American Hospital Association (AHA), Fontenot is also quoted saying, “The AHA looks to the government for funding and stability, and the passage of the Affordable Care Act is a positive move. The American Hospital Association really views it as the first step in getting people affordable care.” Fontenot also co-chairs the AHA’s Committee on Research, and serves as chair of the Louisiana Hospital Association Professional and General Liability Trust Fund. She is on the LSU System Research and Technology Foundation Executive Committee and the Baton Rouge Water Company board. Most notably, Fontenot is a 2011 inductee into the Louisiana State University E. J. Ourso College of Business Hall of Distinction, has received the Louisiana Hospital Association’s Golden Pelican President's Award, and was named to Modern Healthcare’s inaugural list of the “Top 25 Women in Healthcare” in 2005.
The mother of two grown daughters and grandmother of two, Fontenot graduated with honors from the University of Mississippi with a BBA in Accounting and earned a Master’s of Business Administration degree from Northeast Louisiana University. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
