We've all heard of Black Friday and even Cyber Monday, but what about Small Business Saturday. It's okay if you haven't because it's fairly new, but it encourages shoppers to shop local.

Johnny Cook just opened his shop a little over a month ago . He's a local small business owner who wants to keep the local economy thriving. So, that's why he's participating in Small Business Saturday.

"I think you can usually find smaller, more personal, and more unique things at small businesses and local small businesses," Johnny said. "Well, I think it's important because it really does keep the focus on small businesses, and usually local small businesses. As opposed to Black Friday where everything is big boxed retailers, and everyone's revenue is basically going to this huge corporations that aren't always local."

Many people hear about black friday, and the deals you can get, but Johnny said the thing about Small Business Saturday that you may not know is you're giving back.

"It's nice to know that the money that you're spending on things you need anyway are helping to build roads and go to schools to help local children," Johnny said. "All of that's important. It's nice to know that you're money is staying where you know and where you see it needed everyday."

Shoppers may even find something unique.

"As opposed to the item that everyone's seeing on the commercial that's run every single commercial break. It almost gets to be kind of expected. Oh great, you got me the toaster that I saw 75 times last night on TV. As opposed to opening a present and being like oh my gosh, I've never seen this before, and this took a lot of thought. It's unique," Johnny said. "It's also personal I think. With us particularly, glasses are really personal. So I feel like shopping for something that is so personal in a local setting and in a small setting makes sense."

This is the 3rd annual Small Business Saturday, and it's happening right now all over the country.
