CENTRAL, LA (NBC33) — A lightning strike to the chimney of a home started a fire in Central.
The Central Fire Department reports that the fire started at around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2 during the height of bad weather moving through the area. The fire at the home on Frontier road in Central was quickly extinguished, but an estimated $70,000 worth of damage was done.
Investigators have determined that lightning is the cause of the fire.
The occupants of the home were able to escape unharmed.
A second fire happened in Baton Rouge on Hoo Shoo Too road. The St. George Fire Department worked that call, which was extinguished at 5:30 p.m.
We're told a firefighter working that call was injured. Officials say he hurt his knee, but did not provide information on how that happened.
