ALLEN PARISH, LA (NBC33) — A man from Lake Charles was found dead yesterday in Allen Parish. Officials believe the security straps holding the deer stand he was located in broke and caused him to fall to his death.
Donald C. Hodges, 60, was discovered shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18 by deputies with the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office. We’re told they were called out to Hwy. 190 near Rodeo Pen Road to investigate a vehicle that had been stationary for two or three days.
Upon inspection a deputy noticed a trail going into the woods that was located nearby the truck. Deputies walked the trail for approximately 100 yards and then discovered Hodge, who was located under a tree with a deer stand lying next to him.
Investigators say the straps that would normally secure the stand to the tree were broken. They did not find a safety harness attached to Hodge or the tree.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries have taken over as the primary agency investigating the incident. They say they do not suspect foul play.
